The future of the waste plan for East Sussex, Brighton and Hove is once again in doubt as politicians become worried about incineration.
Even though modern incinerators produce little pollution, there has been strong opposition to the two proposed for East Sussex.
County leader David Rogers, who represents Newhaven where one of the incinerators would be, is not keen.
Ken Bodfish, likely to be the next Brighton and Hove leader, does not want his political career singed by incineration.
Politicians like Councillor Rogers are keen on increasing recycling rates. If they could be made better, it would solve much of the problem. But there would still be huge amounts of rubbish. With landfill sites fast running out, is there any alternative to incineration?
That's what the politicians must decide fast before the waste problem for the two authorities becomes a crisis.
