Thelast match of the season for Sussex women was over eight rinks against Adur and the county team just clinched a 151-150 win.

This was despite Adur's top rink of Val Price, Doris Clamp, Jenny Bainbridge and Judith Redford winning 34-10 over Beryl Burridge (Arun), Jean Newton (Denton), Vera Oram (King Alfred) and Sue Small of Grattons.

A five on the ninth end put Doreen Brockes, Pat Anders (both Preston), Susan Miles (Arun) and Debbie Stavrou (Preston) 13-4 ahead and they won 26-11 over Betty Gosden.

May Short (King Alfred), Doris Kelcher (Horsham), Tricia Fry (Falaise) and Terri Wall, of Preston, had a five on the 19th end in their 24-13 win over Sandra Godfrey.

From 10-6 ahead at ten ends and 18-10 at 15, Val Batchelor (Preston), Iris Heddon (Worthing), Kay Strong (Denton) and Joan Plackett of Worthing won 23-12 against Sheila Moore.

Edie Bond, president Joan Timms (both Worthing), Janet Noyes (Wealden) and Vera Lammie of Preston lost 22-21 to Pam Mole while Elizabeth Baker (Grattons), Val Bacon (Denton), Geraldine Friola (Preston) and Margaret McGlone of King Alfred dropped 2,1,1,1 over the closing four ends and lost 16-14 to Edna Law.

From 3-3 after six ends, Betty Whittington (Falaise), Angie Fisher (Arun), Di Taylor (Grattons) and Kay Quaife (Worthing Pavilion) soon trailed 17-3 after 13 ends and lost 21-13 to Iris Grice.

Dropping singles on the last two ends meant Marilyn Holding (Preston), Maggie Reitze (King Alfred), Mandie Gooding (Denton) and Pat Pearce, of Preston, lost 21-20 to Pam Sedgwick.

Four clubs, Worthing Pavilion, Arun, Horsham and Grattons have already confirmed they will play in the Sussex Under-19s League which will be run in the next indoor season.

Eastbourne, Denton Island and Preston have shown an interest and it is hoped when the next meeting is held in June that they will confirm their acceptance. Matches will be of two triples and to ease the travelling Worthing Pavilion will make rinks available for Eastbourne and Denton Island to play matches against Arun (Bognor Regis) at Pavilion.

Winners of the Woods Travel Arun women's open fours tournament were club members Betty Spicer, Barbara Copeland, Shirley Hallett and Frances Ireland who beat another club team of Jean Spiers, Jean Hole, Sue Miles and Ann Briault in the final.

In the play-off for third and fourth between the losing semi-finalists, Margaret Bayless, Cindy Janman, Julie Peacock and Betty Williams had an easy win over Jean Flahy, June Whitehead, Jean Cross and Rose Giles with all eight players from the host club.
