Richard Halfpenny (Opinion, April 25) undermines his case by conveniently ignoring my point about forensic laboratory error and the contamination and degeneration of samples.

Instead, all he can do is parade before us what could, at best, be described as a highly questionable statistic on the supposed accuracy of DNA profiling.

The real problem is test results from this relatively new branch of forensic science are allowed to carry so much more weight than other forms of evidence, making the danger of wrongful conviction far greater.
