The Alliance Building Society was one of the most successful companies in Brighton and Hove.
From small beginnings, it grew steadily until, by the Sixties, it had outgrown its original base. By then, one of the top ten building societies in Britain, it acquired a parkland site in Hove and built a headquarters.
Sadly, the Alliance moved to the Midlands after merging with the Leicester and the Hove Park HQ stands empty. It is one of the best sites for development in Hove and is in a beautiful parkland setting. It needs a scheme of high quality and potential.
The Cuckfield Group's plans for 64 homes and three commercial properties which could provide 2,000 new jobs could fit the bill.
Hove deserves a replacement which will give the same impetus to the area as the Alliance did.
