The purpose of the consultation for the A23 sustainable transport corridor (STC) has been to involve residents of Brighton and Hove in developing proposals for the route between the A27 bypass and Preston Park. No decision has been made on what improvements may be introduced.
The public exhibitions were held at the end of March and received a great number of visitors. Brighton and Hove City Council has extended the deadline for comments until May 25.
A full-page article describing proposals will appear in the May issue of the council's monthly newspaper. Proposed road layouts will also be displayed in the Information and Advice Centre at Hove Town Hall until the end of May.
Analysis of the proposals by consultants has demonstrated that at most of the busiest times of the day, the corridor will operate more efficiently through improved management of traffic flow. Reduced journey times are anticipated for all types of traffic, with buses receiving the greatest benefit. Significant improvements to cyclist and pedestrian safety are also expected.
We continue to welcome comments from the public until the deadline. All comments will be considered in further developing proposals for the route.
-John Douglas, Traffic and transport planning manager, Brighton and Hove City Council
