Wouldn't it be good if we all gave blood - just imagine how many lives we could save.
Every day hundreds of people in Sussex like Gillian Carr and her daughter Elizabeth need transfusions.
Blood banks turn over their entire stocks in days trying to keep up with the demand from hospitals.
There are so many charities, groups and voluntarily donations we can choose to give money to these days.
But no amount of money can buy blood. A donation is an anonymous gift of life to someone in need.
We will never know who they are but surely it must be one of the greatest feelings of satisfaction to know we have helped save a life.
Only a fraction of the population able to be donors in Sussex are registered.
The donation procedure is quick, painless and the body soon replenishes its supply. Most donors give blood only three times a year.
So if you do one thing today, register to be a blood donor. You never know when you may need the service yourself.
