A new Roman Catholic bishop for Arundel and Brighton was appointed today.
Kieran Conry will officially take over the diocese when he is ordained on June 9.
Today he was visiting Arundel Cathedral as his appointment was confirmed.
The new bishop was ordained in 1975 at the English College in Rome, where his rector was the former Bishop of Arundel and Brighton, Cormac Murphy O'Connor, now Archbishop of Westminster.
Today the new bishop said his appointment was not only an honour but a great joy because of his friendship with the cardinal.
Mr Conry is a former director of the Press department of the Catholic Media Office in London.
The new bishop said today he realised many people in the diocese had become "impatient" over the time it had taken to fill the post.
But he added: "That impatience only indicates their enthusiasm to get on with things."
