The Mulberry open at Goring, organised by the Worthing club, was won by a visitor to the beach anglers' annual event.
It was over five hours and 56 anglers competed.
Traditionally regarded as an eel festival, the event was founded on the masses of the species normally caught at this time of the year.
Numbers have been dwindling over recent years and have hit a low ebb, so much so that only one slimy wriggler was landed. But flounders compensated slightly.
Shane Russell made another of his journeys from South Wales. His trips are becoming profitable and he took home £170 this time.
He had two flounders and an eel of 1lb 7,oz to total 2lb 15oz. Russell was in section A where he was followed by Steve Bantock who had five flounders for 2lb 13oz, John Ryder three for 2lb 1oz and Chris Wren three for 1lb 11oz. In section B Paul Finch had four for 2lb 9,oz, Daniel Mogridge three for 1lb 13,oz, Graham Clarke two for 1lb 1,oz and Mark Mogridge (father of Daniel) two for 1lb 1oz.
