So Brighton and Hove City Council staff are complaining (Argus, May 6) about having to pay for on-street parking like the rest of us. What a neck.

The council will spend very large sums on the scheme and the money must be recouped.

Take Grand Avenue. Everyone parking there will have to pay, whether residents, visitors, shoppers or business people. Why should council staff consider themselves a superor tribe apart?

Hove Town Hall is a hub for public transport from all over the district. If these people insist on the convenience of using their cars in preference to public transport, they must pay up like everyone else and stop griping.

Finally, I have a letter from the council that states: "Staff working for Brighton and Hove City Council are no different from other commuters. Under the proposals for central Hove, they would either have to pay to park all day or use alternative means of transport."

I hope that settles it.
