Surely common sense has to come into play when Parking tickets are issued at hospitals.
Dad Steven Winterburn who rushed his four-year-old son Luke to casualty after he fell and cut his face was fined £50 for leaving his car in the hospital car park at the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath.
Hospital chiefs had slapped a £50 fine on the car because he failed to buy a parking ticket.
Parking charges at hospitals is always a contentious issue. Nurses do not want to pay for parking, visitors do not feel they should have to pay when visiting loved ones.
In some hospitals doctors, surgeons and managers do not have to pay while others do.
No one is ever happy with the situation.
But surely Mr Winterburn should be excused his ticket because he did not abandon his car with the intention of saving cash by not paying for a ticket, he had his mind on other things.
It could have cost the NHS a great deal more in time and resources had he called an ambulance to take his son to hospital and Mr Winterburn would have saved himself £50 too.
