The Burger King restaurant at Aquarium Terraces, Brighton ("Whopper of a row over outlet", Argus, May 9), is a positive development.

Not only does it add diversity to the local restaurant scene, it also creates 35 full and part-time jobs. If successful, we will be able to give jobs to at least twice this figure.

We still feel Burger King is a high-quality restaurant. We have invested hundreds of thousands of pounds developing this site and invite anyone to visit to see just what we have done with it.

We have been in negotiations since 1999 to get this site open and it has only been because of numerous problems with the developer, the freeholder and Brighton and Hove City Council it has taken this long.

We have, as ever, done everything possible to ensure the environment is not harmed and customer comfort is enhanced.

Councillor Theobald stated: "Anyone who wants a copy of the official council statements made at the time can have one." According to the council, including its press office, no statement is available.
