There were mixed fortunes for the Mullen brothers Steve and Anthony as Arundel drew with Findon at Waterwoods Plain on Saturday.

Arundel's Steve has just returned to the club from Findon for this season but did his old team-mates, including brother Anthony, no favours at all as he grabbed his second five-wicket haul in two weeks.

Steve's first spell was unsuccessful but on his return he took 5-22 as Findon were dismissed for 192 with brother Anthony going for a duck.

Arundel bowler Neil Chitty, who has yet to claim a league victim, said: "There were a few words exchanged between the two brothers."

Arundel finished on 131-6 in reply as they never got going but Chitty is looking forward to better things to come.

He said: "We're hopeful of putting together a few good performances and it is fingers crossed for a good season as we have added a couple of strong players to our side."

Crawley's efforts to get off the mark with a win this season were thwarted by a determined tenth-wicket partnership by East Preston's George Linley-Munro and Adrian Brown.

Last season's runners-up made 213-3 with Aamer Riaz (79 not out) and Fallah Uddin (74 not out) putting on 151 for the fourth wicket. Kevin Smith hit 56 in the reply but after he went wickets began to tumble to Uddin (4-45) and Riaz (3-10) before the last pair steered the visitors to 148-9. Crawley's inability to dislodge the duo cost them 16 points.

East Preston's Peter Dallimore said: "They are both competent batsmen. I would not expect them to go out there and get a hundred but I would back them to see us home.

"We beat Crawley last year but this game we didn't get many points and it didn't do either side any favours."

Ansty gained their first division one victory with a 93-run success at Petworth Park after making 160-8 on a slow track. Simon Parsons (38) and Richard Nichols (24) top scored as Aussie Geoff Noonan took 4-56 and Dick Whitcomb 3-45.

In reply, Richard Iago got into the 60s as Broadwater picked up a seven-wicket win.

Warren said: We are disappointed but not gutted as they are probably the best side in the division, or so we hear. We should do quite well this season as we have quite a good team."

A thrilling game at Lingfield saw West Hoathly's Dave Perez run out off the last ball while going for a single which would have given his side victory. Perez had taken 5-29 as Lingfield totalled 123-9 declared and the same player scored 53 as West Hoathly matched that tally in reply to ensure a draw. Ashley Netherclift claimed 6-29 for Lingfield.
