Albion have agreed new deals with two more of their Championship-winning squad.

Skipper Paul Rogers and Steve Melton will be part of the Seagulls' return to Division Two next season.

Melton will sign a new improved two-year deal, joining goalkeeper Michel Kuipers and defender Adam Virgo.

Rogers and reserve goalkeeper Will Packham, will put pen to paper on a one-year arrangement.

Rogers said: "It's great to agree a deal after the year we've had. There was no trouble at all. I wasn't looking for anything extravagant. I'm just delighted I've earned another year.

"The gaffer's sorting out most of the squad quickly which will help him plan for next season, but I'm sure he'll be in the market for new faces."

Boss Micky Adams has now tied up most of the squad that took the Seagulls to promotion, having agreed contract extensions with Danny Cullip, Paul Watson and Charlie Oatway earlier in the season.

Adams said: "They've all agreed new deals because they can see we are going in the right direction.

"They wouldn't have agreed them if we were struggling.

"That's part of the beauty of having some success at a club."

Kerry Mayo, the Cuckfield-born midfielder with a year left of his contract, has been offered a two-year deal.

Adams said: "We are still talking to Kerry about it."

Darren Freeman and Martin Thomas, signed from Swansea during the season, remain out of contract.

Adams said: "We are still speaking to them about the situation. They are on a Bosman."

Freeman continued his rehabilitation from a hernia operation at the training ground yesterday.

He is set return to first team action against Southampton in the last ever match at the Dell on May 26.

Albion, then called Brighton United, played in the first game against Saints over 100 years ago.

Adams added: "Darren hasn't played for the first team since April 3, but he is likely to play a part against Southampton."
