Can any Argus reader answer our problem? We have a pond, 8ft by 6ft, which has always had about 50 frogs at breeding time.
They leave loads of spawn in the pond after mating, resulting in hundreds of tadpoles and, later on, baby frogs.
This year, as last, we had our usual amount of frog spawn. After hatching, there were only a few tadpoles round the edge of the pond.
A few days later, the pond was empty of them. This has also happened to my next-door-neighbour's pond. We only have two goldfish, so I don't think they could have eaten the tadpoles.
