Albion skipper Paul Rogers says he could be playing until he is 40.

The captain has agreed a one-year deal after helping to inspire Seagulls' Championship -winning season.

But the midfielder wants to play as long as possible and already looking to secure another contract that would carry him into his 39th year.

Rogers, 36, said: "I've been given another year with the latest deal, which is great. The gaffer went to the chairman and sorted it out and I'm delighted.

"But I want to get another after that.

"I know I've got to earn it, just like a player who is 21 or 22, but I intend to do well enough to win one. I want to keep on playing.

"I look at Stuart Pearce and he's playing in the Premiership at 39."

Rogers has the advantage of only coming into league football ten years ago after a non-league career.

He said: "I'm still enjoying my football."

Rogers is looking forward to a short break in Marbella with the rest of the players next week.

He said: "We were under a lot of pressure at the end of the season with matches we had to win to ensure promotion, then there was the unofficial title to go for and the title.

"The last match against Shrewsbury showed it had caught up with us.

"So it will be great to be able to get away and relax.

"The players haven't had much time to all get together too much socially because of the amount of first team and reserve games."

Rogers, formerly with Sheffield United, Notts County and Wigan, predicts Albion can make a big impact on Division Two next season.

He said: "We were excellent at the back and Bobby Zamora surpassed all our expectations up front in the season just finished and, although Division Two will have some big clubs, like Reading and Oldham, we could do reasonably well."

Hull City and Blackpool will contest the Division Three play-offs after winning their semi-finals last night.
