Two people were cut free from their car and taken to hospital after their vehicle left the road and overturned.

A Renault is believed to have left the road, rolled down a bank and through 360 degrees landing on its wheels again.

It ended some 25 metres from the carriageway but the two occupants were trapped inside.

The accident happened at about 4.30pm yesterday on the Saddlescombe Road between Devil's Dyke and Pyecombe.

A spokeswoman for East Sussex Fire Brigade said it received a call at 4.35pm and arrived at the scene at 4.54pm.

She said ambulance crews had arrived and already freed one of the occupants and the fire officers were able to free the other.

A police spokesman said the two occupants of the car were taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

He said they had minor injuries which were not life-threatening.

Other vehicles suffered minor delays as the emergency services worked on the scene and efforts were made to retrieve the Renault.
