Bobby Zamora can make the step up and keep banging in goals in the Second Division.

That is the opinion of Albion captain Paul Rogers of the striker who hit 31 goals to help clinch the Championship for the Seagulls.

Zamora was voted PFA Player-of-the-Year for the Third Division by fans after sealing the Golden Boot as the country's leading goalscorer.

Rogers said: "There is no doubt in my mind that Bobby can score goals at the higher level next season. I've played more than a hundred games in the Second Division with Notts County and Wigan and I see no reason why Bobby won't produce because he has a great ability to find the net.

"His skill at converting chances was often the difference in tight matches. It is crucial to have a player like him in your side.

"I was speaking to some old mates at Wigan and they felt the reason they didn't get an automatic promotion spot was because they needed one player to get them lots of goals.

"I'm not surprised Bobby has won the PFA award and I'm delighted for him. It's a great achievement in his first full season."

But Rogers revealed the accolades have not gone to 20-year-old Zamora's head.

He said: "We tried to persuade him to bring in his Golden Boot to the club. It's quite an impressive trophy because Graeme Jones won it when I was with Wigan.

"But Bobby was too embarrassed to show it off. He's a modest young man."

Rogers, though, warned Zamora and the rest of his clubmates against over confidence next season.

He said: "It is a bigger step up than some people think. We can do okay but it will be difficult.

"There are a lot of good teams who are used to the division. There are clubs who have a lot of financial clout because they get crowds of 15 to 20,000. The likes of relegated QPR, if they get their financial situation sorted, could be a threat and Tranmere will want to impress their new manager."
