A sharp-eyed photographer has finally unmasked the apparition that has baffled residents - it's reggae legend Bob Marley.
Claire Levett, 25, was intrigued by the image of a human face that appeared one night burnt into the grass in Ashton Rise, near St Peter's Church, Brighton.
She took a photo of the face and as she processed the film using her computer she saw the smiling face of the Jamaican singer staring up at her.
Mrs Levett, of Washington Street, said: "I put the negatives up to the light and scanned them and blew them up and there was Bob Marley.
"I wouldn't describe myself as a fan of his but there's no doubt that's what it is.
"I've done a bit of research and discovered the image appeared the weekend before last, which coincided with the 20th anniversary of his death.
"There may be some kind of joke hidden within the association of Bob Marley and grass."
Light sleeper Eric Brown this week told how he spotted two teenage girls creating the face in the early hours.
