As usual, the Socialist Alliance is wrong in its assertion (Opinion, May 18).
Indeed, on May 15, when the hustings event took place at lunchtime, I was looking after my 23-month-old son, Joshua, and the Students' Union was informed I was not available at the time it requested.
Furthermore, my colleague from Brighton Pavilion, David Lepper, attended the question-and-answer session on behalf of the Brighton and Hove Labour Party and its candidates and stayed for all the questions, unlike the Tories.
Finally, I have offered to meet the Students' Union and have, of course, attended meetings at Sussex University during my time as the constituency Member of Parliament.
-Ivor Caplin, Labour Party candidate for Hove and Portslade
