While millions of pounds have been spent on giving Brighton city centre a boost in recent years, one site has remained a prominent eyesore.
It is the corner of New Road and North Street where there are several empty and derelict buildings.
Now the site is to be transformed into a restaurant and flats for the Quod restaurant chain whose founder, Jeremy Mogford, started in Brighton many years ago.
And an extra feature of the development is that it will extend the historic colonnade that used to run around this corner of Brighton from the Theatre Royal.
This development fits in well with the Dome renovation almost across New Road and with the new library, which will be built at Jubilee Street later this year.
There are also other welcome developments in the area, including a block of three new shops with flats in North Street and the expansion of the Komedia Theatre in Gardner Street.
Also in North Street, dozens of new homes are being created above another restaurant on the corner with Princes Place.
This scheme is good news all round for Brighton. Not only will it provide a prestige restaurant but it will also produce more homes for people to live in the city centre.
Many other cities are dead at night but Brighton is not because so many people live there as well as working and enjoying entertainment there.
