Police say they came across the worst conditions they had ever seen during a drugs raid in Brighton today.
Some said they felt sick as they raided the rubbish-strewn flat in Hollingdean Road.
One man was arrested on suspicion of possession of drugs with intent to supply.
A bag of white powder, thought to be cocaine, was seized for examination.
Hundreds of flies filled the one-bedroom top floor flat at Saunders Park House, close to the gyratory in Lewes Road.
Syringes littered the floor and there was filth everywhere.
Inspector Rob Carden, in charge of today's operation, said: "I have not seen anything like this anywhere, and I previously worked in Merseyside.
"This is definitely a health hazard, not only to the occupant but also to neighbours, and we have asked the environmental health department to come here."
