In three meetings between the clubs last season, Cardiff City failed to come out on top once.

Matthew Wicks was on target for Albion in a 1-1 draw last September.

An under-strength Seagulls side beat Cardiff 2-0 in the LDV Vans Trophy in December thanks to Lee Johnson and Danny Cullip.

More importantly, a single strike from Bobby Zamora proved enough to give Micky Adams' men a 1-0 victory at Withdean in February which ultimately helped Albion to the title.

While recent clashes between the sides provide fond memories, older Albion fans will remember a Boxing Day clash in 1978 when Teddy Maybank scored a wonderful hat-trick.

Playing links between the sides are plenty, particularly in recent times.

Current Albion midfielders Richard Carpenter and Charlie Oatway are both former Cardiff men.

Meanwhile, familiar faces at Ninian Park are goalkeeper Mark Walton, former striker Kurt Nogan and, of course, Alan Cork.

Nogan scored 60 goals in 120 games for the Albion and was the first player for more than 30 years to notch 20 goals in successive seasons. He enjoyed a successful spell at Burnley but things have not worked out so well at Cardiff.

Other links include Albion's 1983 FA Cup final goalkeeper, Graham Moseley, who spent nine seasons with the Seagulls before joining Cardiff on a free transfer in 1986. Unfortunately, his career was ended by a serious car crash two years later.

In 1978 Albion handed over £100,000 to Cardiff for midfielder Peter Sayer, which was a sizeable fee at the time. Welsh international Sayer was a regular member of the team that won promotion to the First Division.

Other names to have played for both include Ian Baird, Mark Farrington, Bobby Smith and Russell Osman, who also managed the Welsh club.
