Four young cyclists are recovering after being hit by a car which mounted the pavement after going out of control in Bognor Regis.
The driver fled after the collision, but was arrested nearby. He is expected to appear in court later this month.
One of the cyclists is still in a serious condition at St Richards Hospital, Chichester.
The accident happened shortly before 10 pm on Friday night when a white Ford Sierra car travelling west from Fish Lane into the junction with Aldwick Street mounted the pavement and crashed into the young cyclists.
The car then careered out of control and hit two parked cars before stopping.
The driver ran from the scene leaving the youngsters bleeding on the pavement and in shock. All were taken to hospital for treatment.
A spokesman for Sussex Police said: "A local man was arrested a short time later and is assisting police with their inquires."
