A nude table dancing club has been given the go-ahead by councillors to open in Crawley.

Up to 30 nude dancers a night will entertain audiences of 250 when Juice Cabaret Bar opens.

It was granted permission to open in a former two-storey office building in High Street. There were no objections from police or the public.

The council granted a provisional public entertainment licence to Juice director Robert Lewis, who will be applying to magistrates for a drinks licence on Thursday.

Mr Lewis said he expected the new venture would be ready to open in the first week of November.

He said: "We chose Crawley because it has an international airport on its doorstep and a business community."

Mr Lewis said the premises would include table-side dancing, a gay night, a restaurant and a night club.

He anticipates Monday night will target the gay community with drag shows and comedians. Tuesday would be dance night, and was likely to be gay. Wednesday was still to be decided but could involve male table-side dancers targeting women customers. Thursday, Friday and Saturday would feature completely nude women table-side dancers.

There would be a VIP suite where people could be entertained out of view of other customers.

Mr Lewis said he did not know how many jobs would be created until a management team had been put in place.

The club will be between Brannigans, in Crawley Leisure Park, and Bar Med in the High Street.

Councillor Ray Calcott, chairman of the town's licensing committee, said there had been no objections. He said: "The people who go there will know what they will see. It is like an X-rated film. Warnings are given outside."

People under 18 would not be admitted and the licence had conditions. The dancers must not be touched and cameras must be installed inside and outside.
