Sussex police have been brought in to look at how Essex officers handled an investigation into the disappearance of a 15-year-old girl.
The Sussex force is to take a fresh look at the handling of the search for Danielle Jones.
Danielle, from East Tilbury, Essex, disappeared while walking to catch a school bus nearly three weeks ago.
Repeated appeals have failed to produce any trace of the teenager.
Divers were today searching a lake near the teenager's home.
A girl matching Danielle's description was seen getting into a blue van in East Tilbury.
An Essex Police spokesman said it was hoped Sussex officers might be able to suggest new lines of inquiry.
