One of the most remarkable things about the euro, shown in opinion polls time and again, is not the level of hostility to joining the single currency but that the vast majority of people feel completely uninformed.
When they do hear the real issues at stake and the arguments for and against, they are much more likely to support British membership.
We forget the euro is already a reality for most people in Europe and, from next year, we will all be coming into contact with it every time we go on holiday in France and Spain.
It is time we had a grown-up debate.
