A man died yesterday when he was struck by a train near a railway station.
Police say they are not treating the death of Barry Heath, 22, as suspicious.
Mr Heath, who lived in the Haywards Heath area, was hit at 3.55pm near Wivelsfield station by a Thameslink train from Brighton to Bedford.
The main line was closed for 90 minutes while the track was cleared.
Commuters heading home in the evening rush hour were affected by delays and diversions before the line was reopened.
Mike Lamport, a spokesman for Thameslink, said: "The train involved was the 15.35 from Brighton to Bedford. It hit somebody near Wivelsfield station."
A spokeswoman for British Transport Police said: "The facts at the moment would indicate suicide, but that would be for the inquest to decide."
Passenger Ian Turner, who was travelling from Crawley to his home in Wivelsfield on another service, was one of many held up.
Mr Turner said: "We got into Haywards Heath at about 3.50pm and then didn't move.
"I asked what was going on and was told somebody had jumped in front of a train the other side of the bridge."
