So it looks as though Labour's proposal for the merging of Telscombe and Peacehaven into one town with one town council is winning support from other political groups.

This is to be welcomed because one town council will not only reduce unnecessary duplication but also the ridiculous competition that takes place between town councillors in both towns.

We would then have a single strong voice representing the interests of all the people in this area.

For me, however, the biggest single benefit will be to see closure of the Telscombe Civic Centre.

This white elephant has already cost over £5 million for very little return as a community facility.

I'd like to suggest the first act of the new merged council should be to sell off this building.

The money raised could then be used to develop real community facilities for both young and old alike, rather than a Clocktower Club for Telscombe councillors.
