You've got to wonder whether the Sussex County Cricket Club is for real.

I say this after seeing comments from Don Trangmar, the club's chairman (August 25).

He says Sussex "would love to return" to The Saffrons in Eastbourne but not until facilities there are improved. Have you taken a look at your facilities in Hove lately, Mr Trangmar?

He also notes, patronisingly, that Sussex could also play more first-class games at Hastings.

The new Horntye complex at Hastings has both state-of-the-art facilities and what already is regarded by professionals as one of the best pitches in England.

The ground doesn't have an acute slope, either. Moreover, there's a catchment area of more than 150,000 people over here, Mr Trangmar. And that doesn't include Eastbourne.

From purely a personal viewpoint, I resent having to travel 40 miles each way if I want to see my county side in action. I'm the customer. Sussex should come to me, regularly. After all, that's the name of the club: Sussex - not Hove.

Think on it, Mr Trangmar. You want a viable cricket club? Then pick up your bats and travel. You might well be surprised at the support you'd get over here in our too-often-ignored part of the county.
