Once again, the rubbish collection in Park Crescent Road, Brighton, failed to happen on Friday, August 24, the day I went on holiday.
I should have known there wouldn't be a collection as it was a Bank Holiday the following Monday and on all previous Bank Holidays this year no collection took place the Friday before.
So the residents put their rubbish out and the seagulls did their bit so, when I returned, all my rubbish had been attacked and was strewn across the pavement. It looks as though some had been collected by the street cleaner.
Will the rubbish be collected this week? I'll wait and see. There are two questions I would really like to ask.
Firstly, where do the rubbish collectors go when they miss out streets? Secondly, since the residents have had to put up with collections missed, dirty streets and having to explain to visitors why there is so much household rubbish, why doesn't Brighton and Hove City Council give a tax rebate to all householders, say ten per cent?
For my holiday, I visited friends in Brussels, which appears to have no problem with household rubbish collection and also has a free recycling scheme.
