A change in a road system in Horsham town centre has been given the go-ahead.

Objections to a new two-way traffic system being introduced in Blackhorse Way were dismissed.

The change is needed as part of a major project to build a new department store on the site of Horsham's existing multi-storey car park and bus station, both of which will be replaced.

The development will include a public piazza and relocate a doctor's surgery as an extension to the library.

The project is to be carried out by John Sainsbury Developments and also includes an extension to the company's food store.

Horsham District Council approved planning permission and the plans went on show to the public at an exhibition in January and February.

But traffic changes needed for the scheme had to be approved by the county council and Cabinet member for the environment Tex Pemberton has now given the Blackhorse Way scheme the necessary backing.
