Crawley Eagles wrapped up the West Sussex League championship without having to face a delivery as their opponents Shoreham conceded last Saturday and gave them the 30 points.

Second-placed West Blachington are in action this week but cannot make up the deficit.

St Matthias posted 229-4 with Colin Allan (54) the top scorer as Cartlidge took 2-17 while Brighton and Hove III were skittled out for 131 as Niall Smith (3-18), P. Hornby (2-29), W. Taylor (2-20) and Prodger (2-6) shared the wickets.

Third-placed Three Bridges III rattled up 218-7 with John Gray (60), Bobby Alderman (73) and Jack Biden (23 not out) shining with the bat against good bowling by Kevin Woods (4-39). Visitors Blackstone never got going and were dismissed for 87 as Colin Tennant (3-14) and Adam Sumner (4-27) did the damage.

Horsham III made 152, Robin Beer (50) leading the way against the bowling of Croft (4-23) and Worthing Chippingdale struggled to 75 all out in reply as John Baker grabbed 4-30.

Dome Mission also picked up maximum points as Chichester Priory Park III conceded.

Nutley boosted their survival chances in the Cuckmere Valley League thanks to a six-wicket success away to Alfriston.

Victory in their final fixture moved Nutley out of the bottom two, although they could still be caught by Burwash Weald, whose match with champions Selmeston has been rearranged.

Alan Poulter (3-12) and Grant Olive (3-32) did most of the damage as Alfriston were dismissed for 107. Olive then hit 35 in Nutley's successful run chase.

East Dean beat Blackboys by 39 runs after Mike Bush helped them to a total of 164-8, Chris Turner taking 4-24. Colin Albright hit 46 in reply but Blackboys were dismissed for 125 with Bruce Elkington taking 4-25.

Richard Gravett (94 not out) and brother James (46) led Firle to a total of 232-6 against relegated Preston Village. Phil Tolhurst hit 54 in reply but Preston Village fell short on 159-8 at the close, Ali Climpson taking 4-33.

Bells Yew Green set a total of 153-7 away to Withyham and then bowled out their hosts for 73 with Sanjay Patel picking up 4-10.

In division two, Mike Pooley struck 86 not out as Mayfield won their championship decider against Laughton. Both sides had already been promoted.

Division two: Laughton 161 lost to Mayfield 162-7; Mayfield II 168-3 (Tim Robertson 55, Paul Smith 43no) beat Ridgewood 163 (Tarrington 41, Paul Gower 40); Firle II lost to Malling.
