I am extremely concerned about the ongoing saga of the travellers camped on Green Ridge in Westdene Ward.

As soon as some of the travellers leave as a result of enforcement procedures, others move on to the site.

Would it not have been a good idea, as well as financially viable, to have employed a security company to stop more travellers from entering the site, which is fast becoming a massive rubbish tip that will cost council taxpayers a large amount of money to clear?

I am a Brighton and Hove Albion season ticket-holder. During and after the match against Wigan on August 18, there were almost 100 police officers in near full riot gear just in case there was trouble by a handful of Wigan supporters.

These officers would have been better used to evict the travellers once and for all.

A fence and a hedge at the side of Mill Road have been cut down to gain entry to the site. Surely this is a criminal offence that can be dealt with by the police immediately?

I know the three Westdene councillors are under extreme pressure from local residents to get this resolved but even working almost day and night over the past few weeks does not seem to have had any effect on the commitment of Brighton and Hove City Council and its officers or the police to resolve this matter.

The Labour administration is sympathetic to the travellers' cause and we are constantly told about the human rights of the travellers.

What about the human rights of the residents, who all pay their way in this city and who are abused and threatened by these people?

It is about time the council and the police used their powers to make sure the residents of this city are treated properly so they can once again live in peace and safety.
