Tim Ambrose is back in the Sussex side for tonight's floodlit game against champions-elect Glamorgan at Hove.
The 18-year-old, who made 87 on his Hove debut in last week's NUL win over Lancashire, missed Sunday's victory over Middlesex because of a swollen knee.
But he returns tonight in place of Matt Prior who needed five stitches in a cut mouth after he was hit when a ball from Mark Robinson deflected off the stumps during the Middlesex game.
Robin Martin-Jenkins is also ruled out after having another injection yesterday in the rib muscle injury which has plagued him throughout the season.
His absence should mean a second start for 19-year-old all-rounder Carl Hopkinson while Martin-Jenkins should be fit for the crucial Championship match against Warwickshire at Edgbaston on Friday.
Three wins in six days have given Sussex an outside chance of sneaking into the third promotion place although they would have to win their two remaining games and hope the teams above them slip up.
Coach Peter Moores said: "Results would have to go our way, but we have given ourselves a slight chance. Who knows, we could be playing Hampshire in the final game to win promotion."
The game starts at 4.10 pm.
