August in Sussex was wetter and warmer than usual, according to weatherman Ken Woodhams.
He recorded 2.75in of rain during the month in his garden at Avondale Road, Hove, well above the average of 2.03in. The dampest day was August 7 with 0.61in of rain.
Total rainfall this year is 6.5in higher than usual, mainly because the first four months were so wet.
The overall temperature of 18.4C (68F) was above the monthly average of 17.5C (65F).
It was the warmest August for four years and the eighth in a row with above-average temperatures.
Saturday, August 25th, with a top reading of 30C (90F), was the hottest August day since 1990.
As it formed part of the late summer bank holiday, it made it the warmest since the holiday weekend was established.
In addition, the bank holiday was the wettest since 1992, with most of the rain falling on the Sunday.
