Like Jean Whitney, I was making my way home when I also came across the water jet coming up from the ground (September 1).
Seeing nobody attend to the leak and wondering if it had been reported, I took the telephone number of Kenton's (the number is clearly displayed on all the barriers), the company working on replacing the pipes, and rang it.
It was good of Jean Whitney to call for assistance but was it really a 999 emergency?
The emergency services are already stretched to their limits and what really could the police or fire service do but ring Kenton's or Southern Water?
