Chris Adams scored his first one-day century of the season, then praised the youngsters who have taken Sussex to the brink of a promotion double.

Adams made 100 not out as the Sharks toppled champions-elect Glamorgan Dragons by 34 runs at Hove last night to record their fourth win in eight days in the Norwich Union League second division.

The county still need other results to go their way, but victory in their final match at home to Hampshire Hawks on Sunday week could secure a return to the top flight.

While Adams celebrated his first one-day ton for 14 months, Tim Ambrose hit 46 and fellow teenager Carl Hopkinson took three catches and ran out Darren Thomas as the visitors were bowled out for 191 replying to Sussex's 225-2.

Adams said: "We brought the youngsters in because we hadn't played well in one-day cricket all season. Not only have they brought a freshness to the side but they have also proved their right to be out there playing for Sussex.

"Playing four games on the bounce like we have has helped, but you can get on a roll in this competition as we saw last season when we nosedived the other way.

"Other results need to go for us, but if we have a sniff of promotion when we play Hampshire on Sunday week then it's going to be a hell of an occasion."
