I recently moved house and, as anyone who does so without the aid of removal men, I had at least 50 cardboard boxes going soggy in my garden.

Where I used to live, we were visited by the fabulous Green Box people but they do not visit where I have moved to.

The only other place to recycle cardboard boxes in Brighton is the Sheepcote Valley dump.

With my three children still on school holidays and my partner working, I had to make the trips with the kids.

I needed at least three trips. After my second trip, I was asked by a dump worker where the boxes were coming from.

When I told him I had just moved house, he said: "Yeah, they all say that."

Then, rather rudely, he told me I could not bring any more.

I then spoke to someone senior and was told I had to bring proof of address.

As a taxpaying citizen of Brighton, I am furious I was given a hard time for trying to recycle instead of filling a landfill.

Is this Brighton and Hove's policy to deter people who wish to recycle?
