Sidley United joint-manager Glenn Sully is honest about his team's early season form.

This despite the champions picking up an impressive four wins and one draw from their first five County League fixtures, all away from home.

Sully said: "We haven't been able to field the same side twice and we haven't played well yet.

"I was trying to sum up how we have played in our first games and I came to the conclusion that, considering we are the champions, the five teams we have played so far would feel they don't have much to worry about playing us next time this season."

Sidley are without influential captain Wayne Farrier and also leftback Paul Sully through injury which has not helped their defence of the title. Glenn hopes brother Paul, who has a knee injury, will be back within days rather than weeks.

The Gullivers-based side have failed in their bid to lure Sean Ray from Rye United to bolster their front line.

Eastbourne Town have been hit by a double injury blow and manager Dave Winterton is looking for replacements.

Leon Cummings (knee ligaments) and John Carey (shoulder/neck) are both expected to be missing for between six and eight weeks, which comes as a blow to a side relegated from Division One last season.

They have had a mixed start to the season and assistant-manager Alan Walsh says new players need to be brought in.

Walsh said: "Dave has realised we need to get two or three players in. He feels he has given the majority of the squad a fair crack of the whip. Some are producing it and some are not.

"We don't want to get left behind. We have played four and got four points. We wanted seven points from the first 12, so we are three behind where we want to be.

"We are not far away at the moment but there is a fine line between being there and getting there."

Saltdean United boss Steve Bean is looking for someone who is up for a challenge.

The young Tigers side are currently bottom of Division One and while Bean wants to persist with his crop of promising youth players he also knows there has to be some experience in the side.

Bean said: "We are on the lookout for a senior player who is prepared to stick his neck out and play with youngsters.

"Once we get a decent striker and a decent centre half, we will have a very good side here. It is just a case of getting someone who has got the guts to do it."

Saltdean have signed 35-year-old former Peacehaven midfielder Mark Eke.

Wick boss Carl Stabler has issued a hands-off warning to clubs interested in his players.

Stabler has decided to put Gareth Green, Ben Milford and goalkeeper Dave Treadwell on contract at Crabtree Park.

Stabler said: "We have had approaches for them but they are happy at the club and we have put them on contract."

Horsham YMCA have been hit by injuries to Stuart Walker and Phil Fitzgerald.
