As a former councillor of Brighton, I feel very strongly against an elected mayor.
We have a mayor elected every year from Brighton and Hove City Council and to suggest we need another one to oversee the council is ludicrous.
To me it is another post for one of the boys, that is, Lord Bassam or one of his cronies and another expense to be put on the hard-hit council tax.
To suggest it is needed to get things done more quickly is also a red herring.
If an emergency arises, do as other have done in the past - call an emergency meeting of the committee involved.
That is what our councillors are there for - and all the more so now they are paid to do the job.
I sincerely hope this idea is turned down flat and hope the elected councillors do their jobs.
