Crawley crashed to only their second Dr. Martens League premier division defeat of the season with a 2-0 loss against fellow high-flyers Tamworth at the Lamb Ground.
Reds struggled to come to terms with Gary Mills well-organised side.
Crawley boss Billy Smith said: "Conceding an early goal did not help and although there was plenty of passion in the side, we didn't really open them up. I felt we would get back into it all the time while we were a goal down but the second goal killed it."
Smith's team got off to a terrible start as the Lambs opened the scoring with the first attack of the game. Pressure down the right ended with Mills' shot being blocked but David Foy unleashed a drive from 20 yards to beat the dive of Andy Little.
Crawley struggled to drag themselves back into contention, with Warren Bagnall the lone striker.
Bagnall fired a volley wide after 13 minutes and 60 seconds later Tamworth should have been two-up as Darren Grocutt flicked on but Rob Gould fired straight at Little.
A 47th-minute Danny Carroll cross was headed at Darren Acton by Bagnall, who then beat two defenders eight minutes later but shot straight into the goalkeeper's arms.
Bagnall was again denied while Marc Pullan pulled a shot wide and Little was forced into a great save from Australian striker Peter Hinks.
Tamworth wrapped up the points in the 72nd minute as a slip by Pullan provided a gift for Paul Hatton to go on and fire past Little.
Hastings Town moved to the top of the eastern division following a 4-2 win away to Rothwell Town.
Rothwell twice went a goal ahead in the first half but were outplayed in the second period.
The home side took the lead in the 18th minute when a free-kick just outside the area found Craig McIlwain who hit the target from close range.
Two minutes later Hastings were level when Tony Burt headed home a Duncan McArthur free-kick but Rothwell regained the lead on 33 minutes when Jason Turner was left unmarked and fired past goalkeeper David King.
Hastings began to take control after the break and equalised on 61 minutes when Paul Jones chipped home from 20 yards.
A spectacular strike by McArthur gave Hastings the lead with 20 minutes to go.
Four minutes later Jones completed the scoring, slotting a low shot past home goalkeeper John Hughes after shaking off two defenders.
Injury-hit Eastbourne Borough conceded two soft goals in three minutes as they crashed 3-0 at home in the eastern division to Histon.
Goalkeeper Dean Lightwood was one of four key defenders who missed the game.
Former Eastbourne United goalkeeper Mark Oldroyd suffered a first-half nightmare on his eastern division debut.
First Adrian Cambridge's inswinging corner from the left swirled into the far corner of the net for the opening goal in the 23rd minute.
Home fans had barely recovered from the shock when Cambridge took a long throw from the the other side and James Saddington got the faintest of touches as the ball rolled through Oldroyd's legs and into the net on 25 minutes.
Any confidence Borough had disappeared and a 61st-minute goal by Histon substitute Gareth Jones killed the game.
Manager Garry Wilson said: "Whether it's a corner or long throw, everyone in the box has a responsibility to act. It was schoolboy defending and we have to stop this type of play."
