The increase in child deafness owing to lack of screening at birth (The Argus, September 7) is very worrying. Just as worrying, but not given as much publicity, is the fact that screening of all children when entering secondary school has ceased in the South Downs Trust area and only children with a track record of health problems are re-examined. Doctors and nurses are very unhappy about this retrograde step.
