Matt Huckett took his goals tally to ten for the season as East Preston maintained top spot in Rich City County League division two.
Teenager Huckett, who is now the leading scorer in Sussex, netted twice as East Preston won 3-2 away to Broadbridge Heath.
The visitors were twice pegged back by goals from Paul Young and Jamie Liddell but substitute Chris Yelling grabbed a winner three minutes from time.
Vic Short, who took over as manager in the summer following East Preston's relegation, said: "With so many young lads in the side we are doing much better than I thought we would at this stage.
"Everyone at the club is quite upbeat about the future. Let's hope it continues."
Rob Craven scored the only goal as second placed Shoreham won 1-0 against Rye United, who had begun the day in third place.
Shoreham keeper Terry Fox saved a first-half penalty and the winner came on 57 minutes when Mark Pulling and Warren Levy combined to set up Craven for a six yard finish.
Shoreham boss Roger Brace said: "It was a good win and I am delighted. I am just a touch disappointed we didn't score more goals which we should have done."
Oakwood are up to third after former Wick man Adam Simpson scored twice in a 4-0 home win over Westfield. Glen Woodburn and Mark Gilbert also found the target in the last six minutes.
Lancing moved into fourth spot with an impressive 4-0 win at previously unbeaten Crawley Down. Glen Souter scored twice while Dan Ford and substitute Don Rhodie both netted their first goals in senior football.
Boss Andy Gander said: "It can sometimes be quite difficult for the relegated sides but I am quite pleased with the start we have made."
Paul Curtis scored on his debut as Worthing United edged out Bosham 3-2.
Abdou Manneh gave Bosham a fourth-minute lead but Worthing drew level through an own goal and then went ahead midway through the first half thanks to a terrific free kick from Curtis, who had just been signed from Ringmer.
Graham Waller, newly returned from Shoreham, made it 3-1 before half but Worthing made hard work of the second half after Story scored a second for the visitors.
Eastbourne Town enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 success away to Storrington thanks to Mark Warren, Nick Barden and an own goal.
Jamie Harman scored either side of half time as Mile Oak won 2-1 against Seaford. John Snelgrove netted a quick reply for the visitors but Mile Oak held on for victory.
Former Hailsham boss Jeff Dyson has resigned as manager of division three strugglers Bexhill Town. Former chief Mark Simpson has taken temporary charge.
Goals from player-manager Daren Newman and Craig Peters were not enough to prevent Withdean 2000 from tumbling to a 3-2 defeat at home to Hartley Wintney in the Combined Counties League.
