People dressed in swimming costumes and clutching towels had to be evacuated after a fire at a health club near Brighton today.
The fire broke out in the sauna, changing rooms and toilets on the ground floor of the Brighton Health and Racket Club just before 9am.
Dozens of people using the club were evacuated and were given thermal protective clothing to keep them warm as they huddled outside in the car park of the detached building in Village Way, Falmer.
Six fire engines and a turntable ladder from Preston Circus, Lewes, Roedean and Hailsham were sent to the scene.
Firefighters tackled the flames and thick smoke and managed to contain the blaze to an area of 50 metres by 40 metres.
An ambulance was sent to the club but no one was injured and everyone was accounted for.
A spokesman for East Sussex Fire Brigade confirmed an investigation had been launched into the cause of the fire.
