In response to A Hollick, the Royal British Legion Hove standard bearer, George Goble, was at the memorial service by invitation and was extremely proud to represent the many members of the Merchant Navy who are also British Legion members.
The Red Ensign was on parade. No Merchant Navy service could take place without it. It is not the words from the pulpit that keep alive the memory of the thousands of merchant seaman who died during the conflict but people like Mr Hollick, who was there and stood shoulder to shoulder with these brave men.
Each year, fewer and fewer of these brave men survive so it would be a pity if Mr Hollick stopped going to the service to remember his fallen colleagues.
