Congratulations to John Parry on his brilliant analysis of the state of Britain today (The Argus, September 7). I particularly liked his analogy of "Yes, I'll have another glass of red wine" - it could equally have been "Let's go down the pub and get stoned."
He asks "What is going wrong with Britain?" It's because people have a sense of powerlessness, hopelessness and demoralisation caused by excessive Government regulation of their lives.
We are hamstrung by political correctness, EU regulations, human-rights laws, Government initiatives and red tape, all undermining our resilience and self-confidence as a nation. This has begun to affect the competence with which seemingly routine jobs are carried out. We need to regain control of our own destiny.
Mr Parry is right to point out our decline is also because we have turned from God. The Bible tells us (in the first nine chapters of Isaiah) how this has all happened before, what we as individuals should do about it and what God will do - and it's all written in the most sublime language.
