Walking around the centre of Worthing on last Friday's International Day of Mourning just three days after the tragic events in New York, I noticed only three flags flying at half-mast.
The rest of the flagpoles on businesses and government buildings were naked, bereft of any indication of the tragedy the world had suffered a few hours earlier. I have to ask, were they all too cheap to spend a few pounds to show their respect and solidarity?
The local government and the various businesses in Worthing should hang their collective heads in shame. I am ashamed to be a member of this community.
Yes, I did have the appropriate flag flying at half-mast on the front of our property.
