The Sage of Sussex's column on the American terror attacks (The Argus, September 13) was admirably succinct and well thought out. It summed up the situation better than many weightier pieces in the national Press.

I do hope those who have been threatening to disrupt the Labour Party conference later this month show more sense and decency in the light or events and stay away.

Of course, there must always be a place in a free democracy for genuine protest and dissent but that place has, in recent years, been seized and appropriated by groups who have very little regard for real freedom or democracy. With their disruption, looting violence and self-righteous opposition to anything they dislike or feel excluded from, they have developed into a form of home-grown terrorism.

These mobs of airhead anarchists, with their wholly negative ideas and negative contribution to debate and society generally, have been tolerated for long enough.
