There is a real problem at Hove Lawns and now, apparently, a misjudged battle. There is neither enough room for teams of even polite foolballers, nor are the Conservation Area Lawns able to withstand the wear and tear. I attended what was a construclive meeting with the responsible council officers arranged by ward councillors at the request of their cross-party electorate. This is no bandwagon and I am not a Liberal Democrat (though liberal and democratic).
Why does Councillor Battle misjudge the electorate so?
Has he talked to abused, frightened or desparing visitors, walkers, picnickers, sunbathers, small family groups senior citizens, passing drivers, grounds maintenance staff or a kite flyer? This is the man who was reported as saying if we do not like Brighton and Hove City Council's policies we can move out.
Much better the electorate sees that Battle out at the next elections in 2003. Maybe he has he ambitions to be mayor? Voting No on October 18 might be a wise precaution.
