I have just read Councillor Battle's absurd remarks about football on Hove Lawns (Letters, September 15). Safely tucked away in his cosy little house well over a mile from the sea, what can he know of the daily goings-on on the Lawns? Unless, of course, like the people who actually live here, he spends all his time watching over them.
We are complaining about the way organised groups of footballers prevent all others from their legimitate use of the Lawns, whether it's walking their dogs, picnicking with their children or just strolling along after a hard day's work.
Finally, Councillor Battle ought to get a dictionary. He really must not describe the current bylaws (issued in 1992) as "archaic". I only mention this because politicians who use words without caring what they mean can be dangerous.
